The life of Dean Stephan can be seen as a testament to the impact that one person can make in a community. After spending 10 years as a teacher at Lincoln Elementary, he went on to spend the next 28 years as the longest-running principal in Lincoln’s history. A lifelong member of St. Peter’s First Community Church, he served in the roles of a deacon, elder, board president and secretary. In addition to serving our nation during the Korean War, he was a member, president, secretary, and youth committee chairman of the Exchange Club for 40 years.
As a member of the 1945 Final Four basketball team at Huntington High, Dean was always an avid athletics supporter. For over 60 years, he was the official scorekeeper for Vikings boys’ basketball with his wife, Lois, by his side for every game, home and away. He also coached basketball and baseball for many years at the Police Athletic/Activities League, Huntington County Baseball, Horace Mann Elementary, YMCA, and Salvation Army.
After Dean passed away in 2014, his family met with HCCF to create the Dean B. Stephan Memorial Scholarship to benefit Lincoln Elementary School alumni and their pursuit for post-secondary education. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today to help solidify Dean’s legacy in our community forever.
