10 Jun Lilly Scholar Update: Earhart Finishes Up Busy Junior Year at Purdue
Huntington County’s 2014 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar Jessie Earhart has had no problem staying busy while representing Huntington County at Purdue University.
Earhart went on a Medical Brigade to Honduras in January of 2016 (Medical Brigades strive to “develop sustainable health initiatives and provides relief where there is limited access to healthcare”). In the spring of 2016, Earhart completed her studies online while working a six-month Nursing Staff Technician and Ambulatory Internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Following up on her internship experience, she was able to study abroad in Ireland last August.
During the fall semester, she worked as an Animal Care Technician in Purdue’s Veterinary Teaching Laboratory and was a Riley Relations Committee member for Purdue University Dance Marathon.
During the spring semester, she served as a Supplemental Instruction leader for Calculus I and as the Vice President of Recruitment for her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega. She also volunteered at the local YWCA, Purdue’s meat locker, and for organizations called Winterization and Springification where volunteers help senior citizens clean up their yards and houses in the winter and spring.
This summer, Jessie is interning with the Indiana Board of Animal Health in Indianapolis. She is also in the process of applying to veterinary schools.
