Community Impact
The Community Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Fire 54 Fund. The meaningful fund serves to honor the legacy of John Brewer, a retired Lieutenant from the City of Huntington Fire Department. The fund was established by John and Jessica Brewer, and its name was inspired by John’s badge number, 54, worn proudly throughout his 27 years of service.

The fund exists to support vocational education in fire/rescue, agriculture and skilled trades, along with fire prevention and community safety initiatives in Huntington County. The Brewers are passionate about equipping young individuals with practical skills and hands-on experiences that prepare them for successful careers in essential fields.
“The Fire 54 Fund reflects the values of showing up, working hard and giving back,” said Matt Ditzler, Community Foundation Executive Director. “We are honored to support the people and programs that maintain these values and make Huntington County stronger.”
John and Jessica’s story began at the Huntington County 4-H Fair, a gathering that celebrates community tradition and a memory they both hold dear to their hearts. Together, they find their greatest joy in spending time with John’s son, Trevor, his wife, Ranissa, and their grandchildren, Eastyn and a new baby boy on the way.

In addition to his career in public service, John is a local farmer who raises both crops and goats, continuing a family tradition of hard work and community roots. The couple’s home life reflects their shared love of agriculture and animals, as they raise and show pygmy goats with care and pride.
John and Jessica firmly believe that family is not just who you’re born to – it is who you show up for, serve alongside and build a legacy with. Through the fund, they hope to carry the spirit of community service forward by investing in the people and programs that strengthen Huntington County.
The Community Foundation is honored to uphold John and Jessica’s longstanding commitment to serving our community and are eager to see how the Fire 54 Fund will impact Huntington County for generations to come.
