Roy & Mary Holthaus Scholarship Fund Announcement

The Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Roy & Mary Holthaus Scholarship Fund, established to honor the couple’s passion for Catholic education. The fund exists to support Catholic education for Huntington County residents by providing annual scholarships for Huntington Catholic School students.  

“Huntington Catholic would like to thank the Holthaus family for their generosity in providing scholarships to our students,” expressed Derek Boone, Huntington Catholic School Principal. “This year alone we have had ten families, most of them in our Preschool four-year-old class, request funding to assist with their tuition. Overall, this has helped keep our enrollment steady in Preschool with only one open spot this school year. Our plan for the 25-26 school year is to provide $21,250 in SGO (Scholarship Granting Organization) scholarships, thanks to meaningful donations like these.” 

Roy and Mary held a strong Catholic faith and belief in the importance of Catholic Education. The couple moved to Huntington in the early 1960’s and had five children who attended grade school at Huntington Catholic School. Mary worked in retail for many years before joining and retiring from Homier Distribution Company. Roy worked in accounting and information technology at Noll Printing before his passing in 1986. Roy and Mary were longtime members of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church where they were involved in various activities and events, most notably the Fall Festival.  

“The Roy & Mary Holthaus Scholarship Fund creates a lasting approach to supporting private education in our community,” said Matt Ditzler, Community Foundation Executive Director. “We are honored to steward a fund that will benefit countless Huntington Catholic School students and families in honor of Roy and Mary.”
